Request a copy of building plans or documents

Our Building department can, on request, provide certain types of information about your property.

You can use this information to support a variety of tasks including:

  • renovations
  • extensions
  • rebuilding
  • restorations
  • selling and purchasing homes.

Step 1: Request a records search for plans or documents older than 10 years

Step 2: Request copies of building plans or documents

Sometimes permit plans are no longer legible or available due to the age of the documents.

If you need information on a property from more than 10 years ago, we recommend you request a records search before submitting an application for building plans or documents.

Once we have completed the search, we will contact you to confirm the search outcome, and you can decide if you want to apply for copies of any documents or plans found.

Application fees for a records search

There is a non-refundable fee of $29.00 (2025–26) for a record search. Please note that search and application fees are non-refundable, regardless of the search results.

This fee does not attract GST and it is determined in Council's annual Budget ‘Schedule of Fees and Charges’, and set in accordance with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Once you submit the application form and pay the application fee, we will search our records and gather the relevant information. We usually send the documents and plans by email, or you can request to have them sent by mail or to be held for collection at our Civic Centre.

Application forms are for a single building permit file. If you require plans or documents for more than a one building permit file, you will need to submit a new application form for each request.

We can supply available plans and documents within 10-15 working days.

Application fees for copies of plans or documents

A non-refundable application fee must be paid, and received by Council, before the requested information can be processed.

Some important things to note about these fees:

  • Application fees do not attract GST.
  • Printed copies incur an additional fee.
