Environment events and workshops

Learn about Cardinia Shire's local flora and fauna and how you can help our environment at these free workshops.

  • This year, we’re celebrating Biodiversity Month in September by joining several other Victorian councils in a Biodiversity Blitz competition!
  • The competition involves taking pics of local plants and wildlife species throughout September using iNaturalist – a free phone app – then adding your contributions to iNaturalist.
  • The community of iNaturalist users will help you identify what you’ve seen, and the information will help scientists to better understand and protect nature. It’s a great way to learn about plants and animals and get involved in local conservation.
  • To learn more about using iNaturalist, you can sign up for a free online training webinar on Thursday 2 September from 7pm. More details below.
  • The local government area with the most ‘records’ at the end of September will be declared the 2021 Biodiversity Blitz champion! The councils taking part in the comp are Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Casey, Monash, Kingston, Knox, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Ranges.

How to take part in the competition

  1. Download the free iNaturalist app
  2. Join the ‘Cardinia Shire’ Biodiversity Blitz
  3. Start recording your observations from 1 September

When participating, please be sure to follow the current COVID-19 restrictions
