Princes Highway intersection upgrades

Several priority intersections along the Princes Highway in Cardinia Shire will be upgraded over the next 3 years as part of our Better Local Roads Project.   

This key infrastructure project will provide safer travel for all road users, while reducing congestion and catering to future increases in traffic.

$36 million project  

  • Australian Government contribution: $17.8 million from its Urban Congestion Fund.  
  • Council contribution: $18.3 million from its Developer Contribution Plan. 

Bayview Road and Princes Highway intersections, Officer  

The intersection upgrade will include: 

  • upgrading to fully signalised crossroad intersection
  • a westbound bus priority lane
  • construction of new Bayview Road South leg connecting intersection to Pioneer Way 
  • Bayview Road north leg road realignment 
  • dual right turn lanes into Bayview Road 
  • left turn slip lanes into Bayview Road 
  • cyclist and pedestrian facilities with dedicated bicycle lane signalisation
  • path connections
  • improved drainage
  • landscaping

The construction contract has been awarded and works started in June 2022. This project is experiencing delays and is now due to be completed by the end of January 2024 (weather dependent).

Tivendale Road-Station Street and Princes Highway intersection, Officer

The intersection upgrade will include: 

  • additional lanes in Tivendale Road 
  • additional Princes Highway through lanes
  • upgraded left-hand slip lane into Station Street 
  • westbound bus priority lane 
  • cyclist and pedestrian facilities, with dedicated bicycle lane signalisation, 
  • improved drainage
  • landscaping

Station Street, Officer will be temporaily closed until early 2024, while intersection works are being completed.

The construction contract has been awarded and works started in June 2022. This project is due to be complete by March 2024 (weather dependent).

  • O'Neil Road and Princes Highway intersections, Beaconsfield
  • Glismann Road/Beaconsfield Avenue and Princes Highway intersection, Beaconsfield

Council is currently completing designs for additional projects as part of this program, however please note that these upgrades are pending future funding.

Other intersections being considered for works include: 

Please note that Council has not started works on the Brunt Rd and Whiteside Rd project, and that external agencies and developers are currently completing separate works around Brunt Road, Beaconsfield.
