Princes Highway Intersection Upgrades - Frequently Asked Questions

We are upgrading 8 key intersections through Beaconsfield, Pakenham, and Officer as part of the Princes Highway Intersection Upgrades program.

Council has completed works on:

  • O'Neil Road and Princes Highway intersections, Beaconsfield
  • Glismann Road, Beaconsfield Avenue and Princes Highway intersection, Beaconsfield

Works are currently underway on:

Council is currently completing designs for additional projects as part of this program, however, please note that these upgrades are pending future funding.

Other intersections being considered for works include:

The 8 intersections included in the Princes Highway Intersection Upgrades program are located along Cardinia Shire major growth corridor.

As Cardinia Shire’s population rapidly increases and more people travel along the Princes Hwy to access their homes, work and local businesses, the more congested and unsafe these roads become.

The intersection upgrades along Princes Hwy aim to provide safer travel for all road users, while reducing congestion, improving time travel and access and catering to future increases in traffic.

To reduce congestion and improve travel time reliability, connectivity, and road safety, we are prioritising transforming our local roads to cope with future growth.

We are working to minimise disruptions for the community and apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works. However, we ask for continued understanding and patience as we work towards building better local roads and infrastructure for the future benefit of the growing Officer community.

The majority of civil works are now complete on the Bayview Road intersection, however traffic management is remaining in place until the traffic signals can be turned on in April 2024.

The Tivendale Rd works are expected to be completed by April 2024, conditions permitting.

Station Street is now reopened after asphalting works.

Pending approvals from government authorities, the right-turn lane from Princes Hwy into Station St will also be reopened.

While these works are being completed, we are encouraging businesses to advise their regular patrons about access and parking options, including using Siding Avenue to make a u-turn to travel back towards Beaconsfield.

Lane closures and traffic diversions are in place for drainage and pavement construction works around Tivendale Road.

To ensure public safety, the median crossing at the Bayview Rd intersection will remain closed until the traffic signals are turned on in April 2024. This means that drivers will be unable to turn right in or right out of Bayview Rd.

The southern connection to Pioneer Way will be opened once the traffic signals are turned on in April 2024.

Traffic management will be in place at both Tivendale and Bayview until signals are turned on.

Drivers and patrons can continue to access the Tivendale Road business hub through the main entrance access via the petrol station entry on the Princes Highway.

Council has prioritised maintaining this access for the community throughout these upgrade works.

Temporary closures have disrupted access to the secondary entrance and carpark on Tivendale Rd, however Council has worked to limit closures to minimise further disruptions.

The Bayview Rd intersection traffic signals are expected to be activated by April 2024, following power supply provision to the site.

Council has not started works on the Brunt Rd and Whiteside Rd intersection project. However a developer is currently completing separate works around Brunt Road, Beaconsfield and more information on these works can be found on Building a Better Cardinia.

There are multiple projects currently being completed by external agencies and developers within the Officer growth corridor, including the Service Station development west of Whiteside Road and the Level Crossing Removal project on Brunt Road. Unfortunately, these works are outside of our control, and we are unable provide updates regarding their construction timeframes or future disruptions.

If you would like more information on the Brunt Road rail removal project, you can visit Brunt Road, Beaconsfield - Victoria’s Big Build or for information on planned road disruptions in the area, please visit the VicTraffic website.

Regular construction updates and progress photos are shared through Council’s Building a Better Cardinia website. Please visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/majorprojects for more information.
