New Council for Cardinia Shire

Following the 2016 Local Government elections, Cardinia Shire Council announced its sixth Council on Wednesday 2 November.

Local Government elections were held on Saturday 22 October by postal vote to elect nine councillors for a four-year term. This is the second time Cardinia Shire Council has elected nine councillors to represent more than 87,000 residents across three wards: Central, Port and Ranges wards.

Of the nine councillors elected, four are new councillors taking office for the first time. The remaining five are returning from the previous four-year term. The 2016 Council election results for each ward are:

Central Ward covers Pakenham. Port Ward includes Koo Wee Rup, Bunyip, Nar Nar Goon, Tynong, Garfield, and Lang Lang. Ranges Ward includes Beaconsfield, Beaconsfield Upper, Emerald, Cockatoo, Officer, Pakenham Upper and Gembrook.

A Statutory Council Meeting will be held on Monday 14 November to elect Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and to appoint representatives and delegates to various local groups and organisations, for the first year of Council’s four-year term.
