Pakenham Tennis Club is on the move!

Published: 7 September 2021

The Pakenham Tennis Club is moving to the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre this October with resurfacing of four dedicated synthetic courts underway and new clubrooms set for completion in March 2022.

“Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre is a first-class facility and the move signals the beginning of an exciting new phase for the club,” explained Cardinia Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Owen.

President of the Pakenham Greg Menzel said the move will help boost participation and membership.

“Tennis is a top ten sport when it comes to participation across Australia,” said Mr Menzel.

“Our goal, as a club, is to see participation grow at a local level from kids right through to seniors. This move will help create more opportunities and remove barriers to participation in Pakenham by locating the club within the regional tennis centre.

“The conversion of 4 courts to artificial grass and the resurfacing of the remaining plex cushion, combined with a new clubroom facility will boost interest and involvement cementing the long-term future of the club,” said Mr Menzel.

“It now allows all tennis enthusiasts a variety of playing surfaces to choose from. The move makes perfect sense for us and we thank Cardinia Shire Council for coming to the table and making this happen.

“We’re looking forward to COVID-19 restrictions easing so we can get back to tennis,” added Mr Menzel.

Henty Ward Councillor Carol Ryan and Central Ward Councillor Collin Ross were also pleased the move to Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre had come to fruition.

“It’s a great outcome for Pakenham Tennis Club and means they’ll be able to boost their membership numbers and participation rates with access to a greater number of courts and a purpose-built clubroom,” said Cr Ryan.

“The move to Webster Way brings the club into the current era,” said Cr Ross.

“Having access to more courts, with more playing surfaces means more options for club players and is a great outcome for tennis in Pakenham.”

Pakenham Tennis Club and Aligned Leisure (who run the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre) offer a full program of tennis activities including:

  • Junior & Senior competition and training
  • Mid-week ladies competition
  • Social competitions
  • Accessibility programs

“We offer a range of competitions for all standards from social games through to pennant tennis so jump online and join the club,” said Mr Menzel.
