New CCTV rolls out in Cardinia Shire

Published: 16 June 2021

Cardinia Shire Council will install CCTV at four locations across the shire to further boost safety and security for the community.

Council successfully applied for a $500,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program to install and upgrade existing CCTV and install electronic access control systems at 10 sites across the shire.

The new CCTV will be installed at Living Learning in Pakenham and the Pakenham Library while existing CCTV at the Koo Wee Rup pool and Bourke Park in Pakenham will be upgraded.

The CCTV will have a live video feed into Pakenham and Dandenong police stations.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen said the installation of the new CCTV and the electronic access control systems was brilliant news for the community.

“It is really important that our communities feel safe and this CCTV roll out and upgrading will greatly assist with that,” Cr Owen said,

“With the community’s support and in partnership with the Victorian Government and consultation with Victoria Police, we aim to improve public safety perceptions and address anti-social behaviour, criminal activity, and graffiti, vandalism or destruction of Council and public property.”

The installation and upgrading of existing CCTV and the installation of electronic access control systems are expected to be completed by the end of August.
