Imagine Cardinia: Have your say on the People’s Panel survey

Published: 15 February 2021

What do you want for the future of our community? Where do you see Cardinia Shire in the year 2040?

The Cardinia Shire community is encouraged to participate in the People’s Panel survey as part of Cardinia Shire Council’s Imagine Cardinia consultation.

Imagine Cardinia will help guide the future priorities of Council through the development of four major plans:

  • Council Plan 2021-25
  • Community Vision 2040
  • Financial Plan 2021-31
  • Council Budget 2021-25

The People’s Panel is a representative group of residents assisting the development of these plans.

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Councillor Brett Owen said the People’s Panel has been hard at work examining community data and hearing from a range of topic experts to assist in developing a Community Vision Statement and draft priorities for the Community Vision and Council Plan, which will inform the 10-year Financial Plan and Council Budget.

“Imagine Cardinia has brought together the community’s needs and dreams to develop a shared vision of what we want the shire to be like over the coming decades.

“After many months of gathering ideas, Council is now looking to check in with the community to see which ideas people like and add new ideas into the mix.

“Panel representatives are seeking further community input and feedback on the proposed recommendations from 17 February to 3 March.

“So far Council has received almost 1300 submissions from the community and what we’re hearing is that people like our location and rural feel, parks and lakes, and social cohesion. Looking forward, people’s priorities are more parks and green spaces, maintaining and upgrading roads, and more sports and leisure facilities,” Cr Owen said.

Information gathered in this round of the consultation will be taken back to the panel and be used to finalise the reports.

These plans are being developed in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020.
