Cockatoo Neighbourhood Safer Place - Bushfire Place of Last Resort moved to Cockatoo Community Complex

Published: 3 December 2020

Cockatoo’s Neighbourhood Safer Place - Bushfire Place of Last Resort (NSP-BPLR) has moved to Cockatoo Community Complex ahead of the 2020-21 Fire Danger Period.

The NSP-BPLR has moved from Cockatoo Sports Complex to Cockatoo Community Complex at Alma Treloar Reserve in response to community feedback that a more centrally located NSP-BPLR was preferred.

Council’s Emergency Management Team works closely with local fire brigades and the Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee to review the Shire’s NSP-BPLRs every year.

The 2020 review found that Cockatoo Community Complex at Alma Treloar Reserve is a better option as an NSP-BPLR because it is easier to access from the centre of town.

A Neighbourhood Safer Place - Bushfire Place of Last Resort is a last resort and should not be part of your bushfire plan. It should only be used when all other bushfire plans have failed. Residents are advised to plan ahead, be prepared and leave early where possible.

Cardinia Shire’s Neighbourhood Safer Places - Bushfire Places of Last Resort are located at:

  • Cockatoo Community Complex at Alma Treloar Reserve
  • Pepi’s Land, Emerald
  • Gembrook Community Centre
