Don’t ‘leaf’ it too late to add your significant tree

Published: 29 August 2018

The Cardinia Shire community is reminded that nominations to Council’s new Significant Tree Register close on Tuesday 18 September 2018.

Anyone can nominate a tree of significance for inclusion on the register, which will help to protect local trees of significance for the benefit of our environment and the enjoyment of our community.

Nominated trees will be professionally assessed for their significance and value, and eligible trees will be added to a recommendation list, with the potential to be appropriately protected through the Cardinia Planning Scheme. Trees deemed significant through this process will form the basis of the Cardinia Shire Significant Tree Register.

Trees on private or public land may be nominated for their significance in the areas of historic, cultural, horticultural or aesthetic significance, for rarity, location or age, or for curious growth form or outstanding size.

Nominations of one or more trees for inclusion on the Significant Tree Register can be submitted online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/TreeRegister until 5pm, Tuesday 18 September 2018.
