Family fun and Tigers in training

The Richmond Football Club is coming to Cardinia Shire again for its annual January open training session, followed by a free kids’ football clinic led by the players, on Friday 22 January.

Held at Holm Park Recreation Reserve in Beaconsfield, the event is an opportunity for both Richmond and football fans alike to meet their AFL heroes.

The activity is part of Richmond’s partnership with Cardinia Shire Council, and Parklea, to bring AFL football to the Cardinia Shire community.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jodie Owen said it was always a great day out for local football fans.

“It is always so fantastic to see so many people coming out to welcome the Richmond Football Club into Cardinia Shire each year for its open training session,” she said.

“It is a great opportunity for football fans of all ages to visit the ground, with friends and family, to support the players and take part in the footy clinic and other free activities,” she said.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the January training session had become a pre-season highlight for the Tigers and the club was looking forward to the day.

“Each year, we’ve been blown away by the huge show of support we get from the Cardinia Shire community and we’re hoping for another great turnout from the Tiger faithful and AFL fans this time around,” Gale said.

“Our relationships with both the Cardinia Shire Council and development firm, Parklea are really important to us. With their support, we’re able to visit regularly, operate programs in schools, and make a positive contribution to the local community,” he said.

“We’re also really excited to bring a pre-season match to Cardinia Shire in February, which we hope we can get another good show of Richmond supporters along to the game against Hawthorn,” Gale said.

The Tigers’ training session will commence at 4.30pm at Holm Park Recreation Reserve, Beaconsfield-Emerald Road, Beaconsfield, with a free kids’ football clinic and photo and autograph opportunities to follow the session.

There will be other free activities including face painting, mascots and inflatables, and food and drinks will be available for purchase. Richmond fans can purchase merchandise and memberships, and there is parking on-site.
