Published: 4 May 2018

Cardinia Shire Council in partnership with Richmond Football Club and Aligned Leisure will again be hosting two Richmond VFL matches at Holm Park Recreation Reserve this May and July.

  • 2.10pm, 19 May 2018 – Richmond vs. Sandringham
  • 2.10pm, 14 July 2018 – Richmond vs. North Melbourne

Additionally, the first VFL match in May will be combined with the South East Football Netball League (SEFNL) and AFL Yarra Ranges interleague matches commencing at 9am.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Collin Ross said he was excited to be welcoming the Richmond Football Club’s VFL team back to the Cardinia Shire in 2018.

“Both Council and our community really enjoy having Richmond Football Club play on one of our own local reserves. Combining the first VFL match this year with the interleague matches is even better as people attending can make a real day of it.

“Hosting these matches in Cardinia Shire provides another fantastic, affordable way for our local residents to get involved in sport and community, as well as getting a chance to support the players in person,” Cr Ross said.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said: “We are pleased to be taking our VFL program to the Cardinia Shire in 2018.

“This initiative allows Richmond members and football fans the chance to see first-hand the Club’s young and rising talent, as well as our more experienced and VFL-listed players.

“The Club is very proud of its partnership with Cardinia Shire Council. We have been working side-by-side for over seven years to deliver programs, events and initiatives and connect people through sport.

“Entry is free for all 2018 Richmond members so we encourage our strong and loyal fan base in the south-east corridor to get along and show their support.”

Mr John Anderson, Region General Manager AFL South East – the governing body of SEFNL – said the league was delighted to be sharing the big stage with both the Richmond Football Club and Cardinia shire.

“The AFL Victoria Community Championships are the pinnacle of local football and we’re thrilled to be participating in what is sure to be a wonderful day of football and netball,“ Anderson said.

“It’s a great initiative taken by all parties and we look forward to some tough battles against AFL Yarra Ranges before enjoying the clash between Richmond and Sandringham. We encourage the local community to get along and support the day.”

Free children’s activities and the Richmond Football Club merchandise and membership stands will be available throughout the day. Entry at the gate:

  • $10 per adult for non-members
  • $5 per child (under 15) for non-members
  • Free entry for Richmond Football Club members.
