Have your say on the draft Pakenham Parking Precinct Plan

Published: 15 February 2018

Community consultation is currently underway to seek feedback on the draft Pakenham Parking Precinct Plan, with two remaining information sessions being held before submissions close.

Aimed at helping to support the development of the town centre, the draft plan proposes to bring about an increase in parking spaces, which are needed to accommodate the growth of the Pakenham Activity Centre.

It forms part of the Pakenham Structure Plan adopted in March 2017 and responds to concerns identified by Council and shared by the community, about traffic movement and insufficient car parking supply within the Pakenham Activity Centre.

Since that time, Council has worked extensively with a reference group comprised of community members and local business owners to develop the draft plan, which will help guide the future planning and management of car parking in Pakenham.

The draft plan also aims to:

  • manage parking equitably and efficiently
  • co-locate medium-term parking in shared, off-street locations
  • encourage sustainable transport travel within and to the Pakenham Activity Centre
  • ensure the ongoing viability and development of Pakenham Activity Centre
  • improve parking for people with disabilities/limited mobility.

Once finalised, the Pakenham Parking Precinct Plan will be implemented into the Cardinia Planning Scheme through a Parking Overlay, which will provide a statutory mechanism to collect funds to improve existing and provide additional car parking.
