‘Child Friendly’ Cardinia launches strategy

Published: 27 October 2017

Cardinia Shire Council has celebrated Children’s Week 2017 with the launch of its unique Child, Youth and Family Strategy 2017–21.

The strategy reinforces Council’s commitment to Cardinia Shire being a ‘Child Friendly City’ which is recognised worldwide by UNICEF.  It incorporates five focus areas for local children, young people and their families to be safe, be healthy and happy, be connected, realise their potential and achieve economic wellbeing.

The strategy’s design was created by students from John Henry Primary School and young people throughout the Shire in partnership with local graphic design company Imprint Marketing and Design.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Brett Owen said the strategy acknowledged the contribution of children and young people was important and they had the right to be heard.

“It is up to all of us to make sure children and young people have a voice in helping adults make decisions. This strategy will make sure Cardinia Shire will keep being a great place for children and young people and their families to live, work, learn and play.

“A place where all of our strengths and differences of our families are celebrated and parenting is supported”, Cr Owen said.

The strategy aligns with the current Council Plan and Liveability Plan. It will incorporate the results of Council’s youth survey which takes place every three years.
