Swap weeds for native plants at Pakenham’s Trees for Weeds event

Do you have weeds in your garden? Learn how to manage your weeds and swap them for free local native plants at the upcoming Trees for Weeds event in Pakenham.

Cardinia Shire Council is excited to partner with the Cardinia Environment Coalition to host a Trees for Weeds swap event on Saturday 30 May 2026. 

Residents can bring along small clippings of weeds from their garden, where expert volunteers will help identify weed species and provide practical advice on treatment and ongoing management. In return, participants can take home a selection of free native tube stock to plant in their garden.

Time:  9am – 12pm

Location: Cardinia Environment Coalition Nursery, 62 Cameron Way, Pakenham 

Cardinia Shire residents are welcome to attend, and pre-registration is not required.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen encourages the community to come along to the upcoming Trees for Weeds event.

“Trees for Weeds is a practical and rewarding way for residents to care for their gardens, while also helping protect our local environment.”

“By swapping weeds for native plants, you can make a real difference by improving habitats for wildlife and creating healthier, more resilient gardens.” Mayor Owen said.

Please note that only small clippings of weeds will be accepted. Green waste cannot be dropped off at this event.
