Building a better Pakenham: works to start in Station Street

Stage 1: Main Street Gateway upgrades Published: 24 April 2026

Works are progressing on Stage 1 of the Pakenham Revitalisation project, with construction expected to start on the corner of Main Street and Station Street in Pakenham from 27 April 2026.

Stage 1 includes streetscape upgrades around the Main Street Gateway precinct. These upgrades form part of Council’s broader Pakenham Revitalisation Project, which aims to create a safer, more accessible and vibrant town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.

Following the completion of works on Main Street and Drake Place, construction is moving into the next phase of works on Station Street, near the Cornerstone Café (phase 5).

Upcoming works include:

  • Pavement reconstruction and kerb upgrades
  • New accessible footpaths
  • Drainage and underground service improvement works
  • Enhanced lighting
  • Landscaping
  • Street furniture installation including seating and bins

To allow works to be carried out safely, Station Street will be closed to vehicles at the Main Street roundabout until mid-May 2026.

There will also be changes to pedestrian access around the Main Street and Drake Place roundabout, including temporary crossing and footpath closures to support the works. Pedestrian access to shops, businesses and properties will be maintained along Station Street, Main Street and Drake Place, with traffic controllers to assist where required.

Traffic management and signed detours will be in place to guide motorists around the area and keep the community moving. We kindly ask all road users to follow traffic signs and drive safely through the area.

We will be working to minimise disruptions, however, please understand that you may notice temporary changes in the area, including increased traffic, noise, dust and lighting.

Upcoming finishing works including landscaping, lighting, final road pavement, formalised raised pedestrian crossings, new seating and bin installation will be scheduled after these works are complete, to help bring all our upgrades to life.

All works included in the Stage 1 Main Street Gateway precinct are expected to be completed by mid-2026, conditions permitting.
