Building better BMX tracks in Bunyip

As part of the Skate and BMX Strategy, Council is upgrading the Bunyip Sanctuary BMX track to improve safety, accessibility and to support riders of all ages and abilities.

Located on Wattletree Road, the track is currently home to the shire’s only scaled jump tracks for advanced riders. The renewal works will create a better-balanced space for riding, social connection and outdoor recreation.

Works will include:

• Improved track and loops
• New scaled jumps
• Smaller pump track
• A new shelter with seating
• Landscaping and drainage improvements
• Path connections to existing car park.

These upgrades reflect Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality recreational spaces that encourage active, healthy lifestyles across the shire.

To ensure that these upgrades are reflective of how the community wants to use this space, Council completed an extensive consultation process across 2025 and 2026.

Through this process, residents highlighted the importance of having equipment that catered to both beginner and advanced riders, increasing shaded areas, and improving drainage and overall surface quality. This feedback has directly shaped the final design, which includes improvements to track features, safety, accessibility and surrounding amenities.

The renewal balances technical improvements with community priorities, aiming to deliver a safer, more enjoyable and more accessible space for the Bunyip community.

Council has engaged a contractor for this project, with construction expected to be completed by the end of June 2026, weather permitting.  

During construction, the BMX facilities and surrounding paths will be closed, and some temporary noise, dust and lighting may occur.
