Pakenham Lakeside fountain update

Published: 30 January 2026

From Monday 2 February 2026, the fountain at Pakenham Lakeside will be temporarily turned off.

Consistent high temperatures and drying winds have significantly lowered the water levels within the lake, leaving the fountain unable to function at its full capacity.

The lake's water levels are currently below the ideal level for the system to function continuously, without risk of damaging its motor and lights.

For the fountain to function properly, the pump motor needs to be in free-flowing water to prevent overheating and burn out. Currently the motor is buried at the bottom of the lake in sludge.

The decision to temporarily turn off the fountain has been made to protect the longevity of the fountain’s system and the health of the lake. Council hopes that upcoming rainfall will improve water levels and that the fountain can then be turned on.

Council will continue to complete regular maintenance checks around the lake and will review the water levels and functionality of the fountain over the coming weeks.
