Published: 1 September 2017

Cardinia Shire will have a 24/7 health club at Cardinia Life in Pakenham from October, thanks to Council and facility manager Aligned Leisure.

Members at Cardinia Life will have access to the health club at any time that is convenient for them, with an additional external entrance, additional accessible change space, security cameras and access control system to be installed.

Deputy Mayor Cr Jodie Owen was pleased to confirm the proposal put forward by Aligned Leisure was supported by Council.

“Cardinia Life serves an important purpose in keeping our residents fit and healthy both from a physical and a mental perspective.

“Our Council Plan highlights our need to get more people more active and we are confident that by removing any barriers around operational hours, we ensure that we give people the best chance to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Cr Owen said.

Aligned Leisure Managing Director Cain Liddle congratulated Cardinia Shire Council on their willingness to listen to customer feedback and provide residents with the best chance to access their community facility, at any time that is convenient.

“It is our quintessential purpose to align with the unique needs of the communities that we work within at Aligned Leisure and we have been told loud and clear that operational hours are a barrier to entry at Cardinia Life.”

“Council deserves an enormous pat on the back for taking the road less tread and it’s our understanding that Cardinia Life will become the first Council-owned facility in Victoria to convert their health club to 24/7 operations. We feel very privileged to be in partnership with a local council who are so innovative, customer-focussed and responsive to feedback,” said Mr Liddle.

Since commencing management of the Cardinia Shire’s major aquatic and recreation facilities on 1 July 2016, Aligned Leisure in partnership with Cardinia Shire Council have delivered the award winning “Tiger Paw” program into 16 schools and more than 1,000 grade 5 and 6 students. The program leverages the profile of AFL footballers to deliver important health and wellbeing messages to students. Virtual Group Fitness is being installed into Cardinia Life, allowing group fitness classes to run all day long. Also, installation of a self-serve tennis booking solution has commenced at Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre, allowing customers to book on line and scan into the facility outside of normal operational hours. Aligned Leisure also raised $27,000 for the Casey Cardinia Foundation who raise funds for local community groups throughout Cardinia Shire and the City of Casey, with funds dispersed through an annual grants program.
