Cardinia Shire’s Gardens for Wildlife program has a fresh new look – and free plants for residents!
Cardinia Shire Council is excited to announce the re-launch of its popular Gardens for Wildlife program, which is now bigger and better!
Council has partnered with the Cardinia Environment Coalition to renew its free Gardens for Wildlife program, which helps Cardinia Shire residents create wildlife-friendly gardens that support local biodiversity and an adaptive environment.
Residents who sign up to this free program online will receive a voucher for six free indigenous plants to kickstart their garden.
By attending Gardens for Wildlife events such as workshops and planting days, residents can receive additional vouchers. All vouchers are valid for six months, to plant when the time is right.
The program also offers gardening tips, how-to guides, and opportunities to connect with others through community events.
Registered residents are also invited to help shape the program’s future by sharing feedback about their interests and suggestions, which will inform Council’s plans for upcoming workshops, planting days, other events and program resources.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik said the program is an easy way for residents to grow their knowledge and skills in the garden and a great way to make a positive impact on the local environment and wildlife.
"Creating a wildlife-friendly garden is something everyone can do. These types of gardens can be big, small, simple, elaborate, formal or natural looking. It’s good for nature, good for our community, and good for you," Mayor Kowarzik said.
