Community input sought on new Beaconsfield Skate Park design

Published: 17 July 2017

Cardinia Shire Council is seeking community input to design the new Beaconsfield Skate Park at a community design workshop on Friday 21 July.

Facilitated by experts in skate park design, Playce, the workshop will be held 6.30–7.30pm in the Community Room at the home of the new skate park, Holm Park Recreation Reserve, 100 Beaconsfield-Emerald Rd, Beaconsfield.

Council’s Acting Team Leader Recreation and Facilities, Fiona Christopher said the community design workshop is a great opportunity for young people and local families to help shape the kind of facility they want to see developed.

“We’re keen to get ideas and opinions for the skate park design from the people in this community, especially the young people that will use the skate park,” Fiona said.

“In addition, Council is currently seeking four young people to join the working group, which has been established to assist in informing the design.

“This is going to be a brilliant facility and we believe the community should be involved from the start. Establishing the working group and hosting this workshop are the first steps in what will be two phases of consultation with the local community to help inform the design,” Fiona said.

  • Phase 1: Pre-design consultation - A community design ideas workshop and two school workshops will be held to find out what the community would like to see.
  • Phase 2: Draft design feedback - The draft design will be exhibited and Council will seek feedback on it before the final design is determined. The community will be able to view the draft design and have their say online and at a ‘drop-in’ day (date to be confirmed).

Jointly funded by Cardinia Shire Council and the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants Programme, the new Beaconsfield Skate Park is planned for construction throughout summer 2017–18 and will include footpath connections, shelter, a drink fountain, bins, landscaping and sealing of the main car park at the reserve.
