Cardinia Shire Council announced this year's 2025 Stan Henwood Award recipient at the annual volunteer reception held at Cardinia Cultural Centre on Thursday 22 May.

This annual event is an opportunity to celebrate with our local volunteers and formally acknowledge their contributions to our community for National Volunteer Week (19 – 25 May).

The Stan Henwood Award honours lifetime achievements in community service and volunteering. This year, it was awarded to Geoff Young.

Geoff has been a dedicated leader in the Cardinia Shire community since 1995, significantly contributing as the Scout Leader of the Garfield Scout Group. He served as President of the Garfield Rotary Club (1999-2006) and has been involved with the Pakenham Rotary Club as President and Assistant Governor since 2006.

Since 2003, Geoff has led the Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show Society, and has been part of the South and Central Region Show Societies since 2010. From 2012 to 2021, he was instrumental in the Pakenham Bluelight program and played a vital role in disaster relief during the Labertouche fires.

Geoff's commitment to community engagement and multiculturalism inspires others in the Cardinia Shire to embrace challenges and work towards a brighter future.

Cardinia Shire Mayor, Councillor Jack Kowarzik, congratulated Geoff and expressed his gratitude to the shire's many volunteers for their ongoing efforts.

"I want to give a big shoutout to Geoff for being the recipient of the 2025 Stan Henwood Award. His dedication over such a long period of time should be commended, and he’s a deserving recipient", said Mayor Kowarzik.

"I also want to recognise all the nominees: Ron Harmer, Ray Spencer, Denise Davidson, Sarah Kelly, Kirra Kruzicevic, George Fry, Meg Platte, and Sunny Duggal. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving our community throughout your many years of volunteering."

"Thanks to all our fantastic local volunteers. Your contributions never go unnoticed and are a huge part of what makes Cardinia Shire such a great place to live."
