Mobile community outreach program for storm-affected communities

Published: 5 March 2024

Mobile community outreach program sessions for Avonsleigh, Upper Beaconsfield and Cockatoo are happening this week.

The program was launched on Monday 26 February, with members of Council’s Emergency Management and Community Strengthening teams last week visiting a number of local cafes in storm-affected areas to chat to residents, provide information and referrals for support, and to answer any questions.

The half-day sessions originally planned for Avonsleigh and Upper Beaconsfield for last Wednesday (28 February) had to be postponed due to the extreme fire danger rating. The sessions have been rescheduled and extended to full-day sessions this week and a third additional session will be held in Cockatoo.

Council invites members of the storm-affected communities to join the team for a cuppa and chat, to ask questions and to pick up an information pack at this week’s sessions:

Wednesday 6 March

  • Avonsleigh General Store, 445 Belgrave-Gembrook Road, Avonsleigh, 8:30am–4:30pm

Thursday 7 March

  • Humble Grind Cafe, IGA Cockatoo, 15 Fairbridge Lane, Cockatoo, 8:30am–2:30pm.

Friday 8 March

  • Up the Hill Bakehouse, Shop 1, 35-37 Beaconsfield-Emerald Road, Beaconsfield Upper, 8:30am–4:30pm
