Cardinia Shire Council completes work on the Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail Clematis extension

Published: 25 May 2023

The Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail welcomed a new addition today, with 800 metres of trail completed in Clematis.

This completes Cardinia Shire Council’s involvement in the project with future connections to continue in the Yarra Ranges local government area

The multi-use trail runs alongside Emerald’s famous Puffing Billy Railway, providing locals and tourists alike with the chance to enjoy the scenic views from a completed path.

This project was jointly funded by the State Government, who contributed $200,000 as part of the Growing Suburbs Fund, with Cardinia Shire Council providing $100,000 through the 2022/2023 Capital Works Program.

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Councillor Tammy Radford was thrilled to see that the final piece of the Clematis Extension was ready for the community.

“So many people, including myself, use this trail and it’s such a key part of our shire, it’s brilliant that the works are completed,” Mayor Radford said.

“Locals and tourists alike flock to the Eastern Dandenong Ranges Trail for a beautiful walk alongside the iconic Puffing Billy and to take in our shire’s scenery, the extension just tops off an already great track.

“I’d like to thank the State Government for their contribution through the Growing Suburbs Fund, their help makes these projects happen.”

The Clematis extension forms part of the 14.5km multi-use trail, running from Gembrook to Cockatoo.
