World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2026 Community Event
Cardinia Shire Council will host Speak Up: Empowering Older People with Knowledge, Rights & Confidence on Tuesday 16 June 2026, as part of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).
Join us for Speak Up, Cardinia Shire’s 2026 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event.
This is a free community session designed to empower older people and their families with knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, prevent and respond to elder abuse.
This engaging and informative event will feature presentations from Safe Steps and Elder Rights Australia, covering topics such as recognising family violence, understanding the rights of older adults, accessing advocacy services, and knowing where to get help for yourself or someone you care about.
Guests will also have the opportunity to explore our Ageing Well Pop‑Up Expo, network with local services, enjoy light refreshments, and collect resources from community organisations working to support and protect older residents.
Whether you’re an older person, a carer, neighbour, family member or community supporter, this event offers practical information and tools to help build a safer, more informed community for Cardinia’s older adults.
