Position description summary
The Classroom Support role works closely with the classroom teacher to build English speaking and literacy skills to students whose first language is not English. This support role is varied and very rewarding. The classroom teacher provides guidance to you according to the support needs of each session. At times classroom support may include listening to students read, assisting in the classroom with a task given by the teacher or taking a small withdrawal group to focus on a specific literacy or speaking skill. Living and Learning Pakenham seek a volunteer with good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with patience and respect for our diverse community. A background in education or education support is preferred but not essential as training can be provided. An ability to take directions from staff is important and your ideas and contributions are also welcome. You will be required to maintain client confidentiality, have a police check and a current Working with Children check. Other volunteering opportunities arise from time to time. If you have different skills, please contact us and we can see where your skills match our needs.
