Stout perennial with underground woody trunk, branched underground.

Foliage in an erect grassy tuft. Leaves arching, triangular in cross-section, 1m x 2-3.5mm.
Flowers
Terminal spike of dense, fragrant flowers. Stem slender, base 30-60cm, flowering spike 5-30cm long, 0.2-0.5 times as long as base. May have multiple stems.

Growing conditions
Well drained soils in heathy woodlands and open forest. Frost tolerant. Full sun or semi shade.

A slow growing ornamental specimen for containers, rockeries or growing en masse under trees. Flowers well after fire.
