Narrow erect pointed dark green leaves 10-30mm x 1-3mm, often scattered along stem.
Flowers
Candle-like terminal spike of single small tubular flowers. Flowers perfumed, especially at night.

Growing conditions
Moist to dryish well drained soils in open forests and woodlands. Frost tolerant. Semi-shade.
Commonly used for
Usually not noticed until it flowers. Can form spreading patches. Attractive for small gardens, cottage gardens and rockeries.
