Description
Open erect or arching shrub with strong bark.

Leaves
Pairs of soft, narrow, mid green leaves 10-75mm x 1-12mm, paler below.
Flowers
Clusters of 2-10 flowers in leaf axils. Flowers unisexual, densely hairy towards base, cluster surrounded by 2-4 hairy, papery brown or green bracts.

Growing conditions
Moist to wet well drained soils in moist to wet mountain forests and along watercourses. Frost and snow tolerant. Partial to full shade.
Commonly used for
A graceful shrub for underplanting, generally not noticed until it flowers. Suits planting with ferns. Pruning from young plants will encourage bushier shape if desired.
