- Small wiry to compact shrub with smooth bark on smaller stems, shedding in stringy strips.

- Leaves
- Leaves narrowly egg-shaped, broader towards the tip, pointed, concave, 3-13mm x 1-4mm.
- Flowers
- Masses of open flowers to 15mm across, sepals tiny, hairy only on base of calyx. Capsules not persistent.
- Flower colour
- White to pink

- September to November
- Growing conditions
- Moist sandy soil in heathlands. Light frost. Full sun to semi shade.
- Commonly used for
- Attractive in open moist soil, tolerating poor drainage. Good for bog gardens. Pruning beneficial.
