Often leafless, when present narrow lower leaves to 15mm, upper leaves scale-like.

Male and female flowers on separate plants. Clusters of tiny flowers.

Cream and brown

Growing conditions
Moist soil, often sandy, in heaths and woodlands. Full sun or semi shade.
Commonly used for
Interesting foliage plant for rockeries or underplanting, especially in lighter soils. Looks good mass planted.
