Apply now for 2024 Community Leadership Program!

Published: 26 February 2024

Applications are now open for Cardinia Shire Council’s Community Leadership Program 2024.

Now in its seventh year, the Community Leadership Program is designed to prepare participants for success in their community leadership roles.

In 2024, the program will run from May to October 2024 and take up to 22 participants through a unique curriculum that will enable them to learn more about themselves, others, and their community in their pursuit to lead more effectively.

The program builds and enhances leadership skills and confidence, cultivates relationships and networking skills, and deepens participants’ understanding of local community and Council. It explores different leadership styles and behaviours, self-awareness, personal growth opportunities, persuasive communication, and effective decision-making.

Throughout the program, participants will also benefit from the shared knowledge and experiences of a host of guest speakers, other local leaders, and program alumni.

Applications are open to community leaders who are:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • a Cardinia Shire Council resident
  • already involved in the local community in some way
  • able to attend all program sessions.

Applicants should review the information available on Council’s website, including the FAQs, to ensure they are eligible and able to commit to the program requirements.

Applications can be submitted online via the SmartyGrants platform until Sunday 7 April 2024. For all information and to apply, visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/leadershipprogram

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik encouraged all aspiring, emerging and existing community leaders across the shire to apply.

“This program covers topics targeted to the needs and interests of passionate and active community leaders, and helps them further develop their capacity as leaders within their local neighbourhoods, groups, schools, and organisations,” Mayor Kowarzik said.

“The communities in which our program graduates both live and lead continue to benefit from having stronger, connected, and effective leaders who help build vibrant and thriving places to live, work, and play.

“If you are someone who leads, motivates, advocates for, and inspires others to work together to improve our Shire, then both you and your community will gain so much by being a part of the 2024 program and I strongly support you to apply!”

The Cardinia Community Leadership Program is fully-funded by Cardinia Shire Council.
