Applications open: Youth Council Learning and Leadership Program 2020
Cardinia Shire Council is searching for nine young people aged 16–21 years to take part in the Youth Council Learning and Leadership Program 2020.
Now in its third year, the program gives participants the opportunity to gain insight into local government as well as building leadership skills.
Program participants will get the chance to:
- facilitate an election to elect a Chair and Deputy Chair
- visit Parliament House
- attend and run monthly meetings
- debate against Councillors and Council officers
- attend local community events
- be supported to develop and achieve group and individual goals for the year.
Successful participants will be selected by Cardinia Shire’s Councillors and chosen for their leadership qualities, desire to help build a stronger local community, interest in having a say on local issues that affect young people, and their interest in local government.
The program commences with an induction day in January 2020 and meetings will be run on the first Wednesday of every month, 5–7pm, from February until December.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Graeme Moore encouraged the shire’s young people to apply for the highly beneficial program.
“This Youth Council Learning and Leadership Program is an excellent way to help develop leadership capacity in young people living in Cardinia Shire,” Cr, Moore said.
“It's a great opportunity to learn more about local government, receive mentoring from current Councillors, participate in a mock election, strengthen debating skills, and attend local events.”
Applications close on Saturday 2 November 2019.
