Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore said Council is pleased to be able to offer this free service to residents.

“This is the third time Council has hosted the free green waste weekends for residents since its successful trial of the service back in 2017. The service is a key outcome of our Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2017–26, and is one way we are empowering residents to keep Cardinia Shire clean,” said Cr Moore.

The green waste drop-off events are a free service assisting Cardinia Shire households to dispose of residential amounts of green waste for free, including: flowers, garden prunings, grass clippings, leaves, tree branches and trunks (up to 30 centimetres wide and 1 metre long), and weeds.

Items not accepted include: rocks, soil, building and renovation waste, treated timber, plant pots, food, general waste or recycling and garden waste in bags.

Residents must present photo ID with an address in the shire to access the free service. Waste will only be accepted from residential vehicles and trailers, and commercial business operators cannot use this service.

The green waste will be shredded and taken to a composting facility. It will then be broken down and turned into high-quality soil conditioner to help grow food in Victoria.
