Access and parking at Emerald Lake Park

Published: 16 March 2018

Council has identified a problem with the functioning of the overflow drain in Emerald Lake Park, which may be impacting the main access road to the Puffing Billy Station carpark.

To safeguard the condition of the road and to ensure the safety of the road users and visitors to the area, Council has taken immediate action to enact a temporary traffic management plan, liaise with stakeholders, and erect appropriate signage on site.

In addition, the water level of Emerald Lake Park will be lowered over the weekend to reduce risk to the infrastructure, and we are currently working closely with stakeholders to determine suitable workarounds for car parking and facility access in the immediate term.

Although access to the lower carpark will be unaffected, the access road to the station carpark has been temporarily closed to traffic, with detours in place.

Puffing Billy will be operating as normal; however, parking capacity will be reduced due to the temporary closure of the station car park.

Council will be obtaining specialist assistance to investigate the extent of the issue and will continue to communicate with the local community and stakeholders as the issue progresses.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to visitors and wish to thank the community and local business owners for their understanding and patience during this time.
