Cardinia Shire Australia Day 2018 award winners announced
Cardinia Shire’s Australia Day 2018 award winners were announced as part of Council’s Australia Day celebrations on Friday.
The Australia Day 2018 award winners are:
- Citizen of the year: Malcolm Graham
- Senior citizen of the year: Les Jacobs
- Young citizen of the year: Sally Jensen
- Community event of the year: Casey Cardinia Biggest Blokes Lunch 2017
Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Collin Ross congratulated the winners and nominees, and thanked them for their commitment and contributions to fostering an inclusive, vibrant and diverse community.
“I am proud to be part of a community that has so many dedicated, talented people who selflessly work towards bettering the lives of others. All of the Australia Day award nominees have made an incalculable contribution to our community,” Cr Ross said.
“They have put countless hours into their chosen organisations and selflessly offer their experience, compassion, talents and energy to supporting those in need. They represent our shire’s committed volunteer force.
“Today, we take the time to acknowledge their efforts and commitment to our community. Without their efforts, our shire would not be the great place it is to live. Let us take inspiration from these outstanding Australians as we all work together to make our community, and our nation, truly great.”
The Australia Day celebrations continued throughout the day at free events in Bunyip, Cockatoo, Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang and Pakenham, and across the Cardinia Shire outdoor pools.
