Cardinia Shire residents help recycle nearly 12 tonnes at Council’s first Recycling Drive and Drop event!

Published: 28 July 2025

Cardinia Shire residents helped recycle nearly 12 tonnes of e-waste, polystyrene, soft plastics, textiles and cardboard at Cardinia Shire Council’s first Recycling Drive and Drop event.

Council hosted the wildly successful event on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 July at the Council Depot in Pakenham.

With residents taking the opportunity to drop-off those hard to recycle items, the weekend saw an impressive 419 vehicles drive through – averaging one vehicle every 90 seconds.

Due to this overwhelming success, Council has already locked in dates for the next Recycling Drive and Drop event: Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 January 2026.  More details to come closer to those dates.

Cardinia Shire Mayor, Councillor Jack Kowarzik praises the community’s enthusiastic participation.

“A massive thank you to everyone who attended this new event!”

“Over the course of the weekend, we saw hundreds of cars drive through, each one representing a conscious decision to recycle responsibly.”

“Not only have you cleared out those hard to recycle items from your home, but more importantly you have helped ensure nearly 12 tonnes of waste will be reused or recycled, instead of ending up in landfill.”

“We are thrilled with the turnout and are excited for the next Recycling Drive and Drop event in January.”
