Cardinia Shire’s new Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected for 2022–2023

At its annual Statutory Council Meeting on Monday 7 November, Council welcomed the new Cardinia Shire Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the 2022–2023 term.

Officer Ward Councillor Tammy Radford was elected Mayor of Cardinia Shire and Pakenham Hills Ward Councillor Jack Kowarzik was elected as Deputy Mayor for 2022–2023.

Cr Radford said she was excited about taking up the opportunity to lead the Council through its third year.

“I am grateful to have the full support of my family to take on this exciting and challenging role. And I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for entrusting me to perform this role,” Cr Radford said.

“It is a great privilege to be able to stand as Mayor, one that I do not take lightly. I will perform this role with consideration and respect to the diverse interests of our community and work hard to ensure inclusion for all.”

Cr Kowarzik said he saw the role of Deputy Mayor as being an important support and trusted partner to assist the Mayor to successfully undertake their duties.

“I’m excited to be taking on the role and I am pleased to be able to support the Mayor and the Council as Deputy Mayor,” Cr Kowarzik said.

“I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for their votes and the confidence they have put in me to take on this role over the next 12 months.”

Former Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield (2021–2022) said he has really enjoyed his second term as Cardinia Shire Mayor.

“I feel very fortunate to have been trusted to serve as Mayor for a second time, and to be able to represent the wonderful community that together we are all building.

“I set out to always leave things in a better position than I took them on, and I truly hope that I have delivered on that intention. The efforts that my fellow Councillors, our Council staff, and our community committees have contributed this past year have been, as always, commendable. I am so proud to be a part of this community,” Cr Springfield said.
