Statement from Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jeff Springfield

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield said the Victorian Government’s announcement today of a targeted testing and information program for areas with increased community transmission provides further information for local residents and businesses.

He said Council will support the state’s activities of additional testing and community engagement activities, adding that although it is always disappointing to learn of any cases, the state’s recent announcement provides more information for residents and goes some way to address the confusion and concern caused throughout the greater local government area.

“Council’s message remains clear – the top priority is health and safety. We urge our community to follow the health guidelines, undertake testing, and help slow the spread for the health and safety of our community.”

Council will work closely with health authorities to support residents and businesses within any area in which additional testing and community engagement is undertaken.

“We are thankful for the detailed work undertaken by health authorities. This is something we have been asking for and we’ve empathised with our community and businesses during what has been a tough time fuelled by uncertainty and lack of specific information,” he said.

Cr Springfield has also welcomed publication of information by the DHHS that provides clarity around the definition of hot spots and the suburban testing blitz. This information is available on the DHHS website at www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus
