  • Our new 4-year draft Cultural Diversity Plan sets out specific key actions to welcome our new communities and increase their participation and engagement in local activities, programs and services.
  • Thank you for giving feedback on the draft plan. This consultation closed on Wednesday 4 September 2019.
  • At Cardinia Shire Council, we are proud of our shire’s rich cultural diversity. We are committed to ensuring an inclusive and connected community. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and contributes to making our shire such a vibrant and welcoming community in which to live.
  • Council has an important role to play in fostering an accessible and welcoming community for everyone and for providing support and opportunities for our residents from culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse backgrounds.

Background

This is Council’s second Cultural Diversity Plan. It builds on our existing policies and plans and seeks to contribute to an inclusive community that embraces and celebrates cultural and religious diversity in our communities.

Development

Cardinia Shire Council’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Advisory Committee delivered the shire’s first multicultural forum and provided the opportunity for residents to participate in meaningful discussions about their new life in Cardinia Shire and their aspirations for the future. The findings from the forum have informed the new plan and provided direction for our work over the next 4 years.

Consultation

Consultations have also taken place with community and key stakeholder agencies including local service providers, relevant government bodies, local community and faith based networks and groups, community leaders and Council staff.
