Cardinia Shire Urban Growth Aboriginal Heritage Study

This study provides information on the location of Aboriginal archaeological sites and areas of potential sensitivity within the growth corridor. The study area is situated between the east bank of Cardinia Creek and Mt Ararat to the west, close to a boundary between two dialect groups of Kulin clans who occupied central Victoria at the time of European settlement.

The major purpose of the study was to consider the significance of identified archaeological sites and to develop a predictive model to locate other Aboriginal sites within the study corridor.

The study also provides guidelines to ensure the Aboriginal heritage of a site is adequately addressed when determining planning permit applications.
