- Project description
This new sport and community reserve will feature 2 sports ovals, 2 netball courts, a community and sports pavilion, a playground with skate facilities, multi-purpose cricket practice and futsal nets, a multi-use ball court, walking paths, open space areas, wetlands, a large shelter and car parking.
The project will be delivered in 2 stages.
- The project is funded by Council ($10.3 million). The Victorian Government has also contributed $500,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund for the pavilion and $513,442 from the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund for the ovals.
- Progress update
Stage 1 works: construction of the ovals are complete, light poles have been installed and oval 1 lights are operational. The placyspace, landscaping, netball, basketball and practice cricket areas are almost complete.
Stage 2 works to construct a new pavilion have are nearing completion. The new pavilion will feature community spaces, social space, meeting rooms, a community kitchen and canteen.
The pavilion will also have female-friendly sports change rooms, female-friendly design and universally accessible amenities, umpires room, a gym, communications and storage space, cleaner’s storeroom, and first aid room.
- Benefits for the community
- The reserve will provide community health and wellbeing benefits with new participation opportunities. It will also provide a place for social connectedness by offering spaces for the community to gather and participate in activities and programs.
- Community consultation
Through extensive consultation during the planning and design stages of the project, Council has worked with the local community and user groups, departments across Council, the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning (DELWP), and Sport and Recreation Victoria to ensure the pavilion will serve the varied needs of the growing community in the best way possible.
We have also sought input from sporting organisations (such as AFL Victoria and Cricket Victoria) who represent the sports that will be located at this site.
