News>Community VCAL students NUKE it!
| Media release: 5 November 2009 | | Cardinia Shire Youth Services and Oz Child Community VCAL have united to build upon the life skills in local young people.
Cardinia Shire Council Youth Services, Oz Child Community VCAL and Connections UnitingCare have worked together to develop the Never Underestimate Kids Education Program (NUKE).
OzChild were successful in obtaining funding from School Focussed Youth Services to support its implementation.
The program will assist students from both the Pakenham and Cranbourne sites, to build resilience, confidence and trust.
Council’s Youth Services Officer, Carrolyn Agius said all those involved in the development and delivery of NUKE are all very excited about the program.
The NUKE Program will include students hearing from a range of guest speakers including: Police Youth Resource officers, prison officers and a range of local youth and community agencies.
Topics covered in the program include: rights and responsibilities, anger management, bullying, party safe and sexual education.
“The program is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be provided with such an interactive program, which will provide them with valuable life skills,” Ms Agius said.
There are a range of challenging excursions built into the program.
These include: rock climbing, abseiling and a visit to a prison to push students to their limits and to encourage participants to try things that they wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do.
“This program allows participants to experience positive outcomes in a supportive learning environment,” Ms Agius said. | |
