| We can live comfortably with a certain amount of noise, but sometimes excessive or intrusive noise can have serious effects.
Noise pollution can disturb our work, relaxation and sleep. It can cause stress and create or worsen physical problems such as high blood pressure, chronic exhaustion and heart disease.
A quiet environment is a restful place that promotes relaxation and a happier, healthier community.
| |
| If you are experiencing problems with excessive noise please contact the health department on 1300 787 624 and an Environmental Health Officer will be able to give some advise and mediate between the two parties to work on a solution to settle the problem. You can also email your concerns to the health department (see link below) | |
| Noisy Neighbours When dealing with noisy neighbours, the ideal approach is to talk to them and work together on a solution to settle the problem so as no to cause a neighbourly dispute.
Sometimes noisy neighbours are not aware that they are making unreasonable noise, or that they could be annoying or disturbing you. Often talking to them can lead to changes that will benefit you both.
What you can do If talking to your neighbour does not resolve the problem, you have other options available.
Council's Environmental Health officers are available to help deal with the problem. If the problem is occuring outside of councils's daily working hours the police may be contacted.
If there is still some difficulty in reaching a satisfactory outcome you can contact the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria on Free call 1800 658 528. This is an organisation established to help people settle their disputes in a co-operative and lasting way. If the situation warrants it, you can consult a solicitor and discuss civil action. | |
