News>Streetscape improvements completed
| Media release: 8 October 2009 | | Blackfish motifs that symbolise the indigenous meaning of Koo Wee Rup are now part of the streetscape along the length of Station Street up to Moody Street.
Earlier pavement improvements were completed in 2004 and 2007 but the final 110 metres of the retail precinct of Koo Wee Rup was possible thanks to a $95,000 Federal Government grant under the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
Mayor Cr Bill Pearson said the stimulus money was very welcome and Council was pleased that this long term upgrade of paving improvements is now completed.
“The Federal funding was much appreciated,” he added.
Port Ward Councillor Stuart Halligan also commented that the Koo Wee Rup streetscape is now safer, more attractive and embeds the earliest history of the region in the daily life of the community.
“New bins and seating have also been ordered and should be installed by the end of October,” said Cr Halligan.
“It’s an upgrade to an important community hub that will make shopping, socialising and doing business in Koo Wee Rup more pleasant,” he added.
