News>Free workshops for artists, art groups and event organisers
| Media release: 8 October 2009 | | Artists of all persuasions can build successful businesses through effective marketing and affordable advertising.
To assist groups, festival organisers and art practitioners in Cardinia Shire Council and the Arts Management Advisory Group (AMAG) are offering free workshops in October and November.
The workshops – Advertising and Publicity on a Shoestring and Marketing in the Arts Arena – will be facilitated by artist and entrepreneur Virginia Maywald, who turned her small arts practice into a highly successful business exporting quality ceramics specifically for the hotel industry.
The workshops are designed to assist members of Cardinia Shire’s arts community with a range of promotion and marketing skills including promoting a group or event, a festival or looking for tips to build a profile.
Advertising and Publicity on a Shoestring will introduce ideas on ways to make a bigger impact and reach an audience on a minimal budget.
The session also offers insight into promoting more effectively via local media.
Marketing in the Arts Arena provides more in-depth tools including developing a marketing plan and insight into new and different avenues for marketing such as online promotion.
Cr Ed Chatwin, Chair of Council’s Arts and Cultural Reference Group, said the opportunities for the local artists in community are stronger than ever.
“These workshops are a great opportunity for local people interested in the arts,” said Cr Chatwin
“They will assist artists and arts groups to extend their reach and improve awareness in the marketplace by improving their knowledge and confidence,” added Cr Chatwin.
“Promotion is one of the most difficult aspects of this industry and participants will gain valuable insights.
The workshops will also provide opportunities to network and share ideas,” said Cr Chatwin.
Two sessions of Advertising and Publicity on a Shoestring will be held on Tuesday 20 October at the Cardinia Cultural Centre Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham and Thursday 29 October at the Gem Community Arts Centre, 19 Kilvington Drive, Emerald.
Marketing in the Arts Arena will be held on Thursday 5 November at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham.
All workshops run from 6–8.30pm, with places strictly limited.
