News>Last chance to nominate for Australia Day Awards
| Media release: 2 October 2009 | | Friday 30 October is the last day to nominate for a Cardinia Shire Australia Day Award. Residents are encouraged to nominate people in their towns who give tirelessly by volunteering in local groups, clubs and community projects.
The Cardinia Shire Australia Day Awards will be presented at celebrations on 26 January at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
These awards recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of valued community members in five categories: | |
 | Citizen of the Year |  | Senior Citizen of the Year |  | Young Citizen of the Year |  | Community Event of the Year |  | Community Service Award |

| The fifth category, Community Service Award, is to honour people who do not live in Cardinia Shire but have made significant contributions to the Cardinia Shire community.
Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Cr Bill Pearson encouraged residents to send in their nominations for awards.
“We are very fortunate to have so many people working to make Cardinia Shire a better place,” Cr Pearson said.
“The Cardinia Shire Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to honour some of our very best citizens. I hope the community will support the awards and acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of people who deserve a pat on the back.”
