| Media release: 2 October 2009 | | Cardinia Shire Council is seeking feedback from the public on the draft Sustainable Environment Strategy (SES) 2009–12.
The strategy supports the principal of ‘thinking locally to act globally’ and addresses a range of topics including: | |
 | climate change and energy consumption | | development and the built environment | | water scarcity and waste minimisation | | sustainable purchasing (procurement) | | natural systems |
|
|
| The strategy integrates related Council policies and services and will guide Council’s governance and decision making, education and engagement with the wider community.
The strategy will also ensure appropriate future reporting on sustainability measures by Council.
Council Mayor Cr Bill Pearson encouraged all residents to read the draft strategy and provide comments for consideration.
“We all have a part to play in helping protect our environment for coming generations,” said Cr Pearson.
“Local governments are expected to lead local communities on these important issues and our view is that if we work together, Council and the community can rise to meet our sustainability challenges,” he said.
“A compounding feature of our Shire is the expanding population and the pressures this places on local waterways, bushland areas, water and energy consumption and waste management.”
“Caring for our environment in sustainable ways will benefit everyone in the longer term,” Cr Pearson added.
The draft Sustainable Environment Strategy 2009–12 can be downloaded from by going to ‘Have your say’ or a hard copy can be picked up from the Council offices in Henty Street Pakenham.
Feedback will be accepted in writing to Martin Teplik, Manager Sustainable Environment, PO Box 7, Pakenham 3810 or by email to mail
