News>New car parking options in Pakenham CBD
| Media release: 28 September 2009 | | Cardinia Shire Council has announced additional off-street public car parking options for business employees and customers during construction of the $80 million retail precinct in Pakenham.
Mayor Cr Bill Pearson said preparations for site works at the retail precinct are expected to commence on 12 October or shortly thereafter, with the Treloar Lane car park to close during the construction period.
“Council acknowledges that car parking has been an issue of concern for business operators and has secured a number of sites that will provide alternative off-street public car parking,” Cr Pearson said.

| “The car parks will deliver a total of 280 car parking spaces in close proximity to the main shopping area and are intended to complement existing parking around the CBD,” Cr Pearson said. “Time restrictions will apply in some areas.”
“Parking in Treloar Lane itself is expected to be available after 5pm for customers and staff of shops with later operating hours. All vehicles belonging to workers on the construction site will be parked away from public car parking areas.
“Council is in the process of securing further car parking sites and will provide updates as these become available. We will continue to work closely with the Pakenham Business Group, business operators and the wider community,” Cr Pearson said.
A map highlighting new and existing off-street car parking areas in Pakenham will be distributed to Main Street business operators for their employees and customers.
A new Woolworths supermarket, a Big W department store and specialty shops are features of the new retail precinct to be developed on a 2.9 hectare parcel of land bounded by John Street, Henry Street, Cook Drive and Treloar Lane.
Cr Pearson said the proposal was expected to create to 700 new jobs and 1,108 car parking spaces – including underground car parking – in the heart of Pakenham, along with a host of expanded shopping opportunities.
