| Media release: 3 September 2009 | | Progress continues on the much awaited Holm Park Reserve sporting development. The Department of Sustainability and Environment recently approved tree removal from the site making way for construction to commence in coming months.
To date, the Federal Government has provided $264,000 funding though the Local Community Infrastructure Program and the State Government has provided $500,000 through Sports and Recreation Victoria. The total construction cost of the project is estimated to be $6 million. Council is funding the remainder.
Mike Ellis, Acting CEO of Cardinia Shire Council said design is now well advanced and tenders will be called for construction of the ovals, car park and pavilion once they are finalised.
“We understand people’s eagerness for the new sporting facilities in Beaconsfield and Upper Beaconsfield. Council is working hard to deliver a magnificent sporting complex with three ovals, cricket practice nets, netball and tennis courts, a skate park, barbeque facilities and a pavilion,” said Mr Ellis.
“It’s a very large project and one that’s dear to the hearts of Beaconsfield and Upper Beaconsfield sporting interests.
“Given climate change concerns, Council is also investigating using water sensitive urban design and water harvesting techniques to conserve water and improve the sustainability of the reserve complex,” he added.
“Council has already initiated a program to relocate native frogs from the area, further demonstrating Council’s deep commitment to the environment,” said Mr Ellis.
Regular updates on the Reserve are provided to each Council meeting.
